Often the team that makes the fewest mistakes wins a football game.

The Bears proved that true Saturday, besting the Broncos 28-0 in the 11-and-12 year old championship game at Memorial Stadium. The Broncos turned the ball over three times and those turnovers helped the Bears put the game away.

“We came out with the whole mindset of playing defensive first,” said Bears coach C.J. Pritchett. “I told them it starts with defense.”

Zion Small ran for a 65-yard touchdown in the first quarter, giving the Bears a quick 8-0 lead. As it turns out, that’d be the only points they’d need. Small added another touchdown on a 42-yard touchdown reception by M.J. Reese in the fourth quarter.

Reese also had an 11-yard touchdown run and Jatavious McGraw scored on a 5-yard score.

“We got what two fumbles right off the bat?” Pritchett said. “We capitalized off that. That’s what football is all about.”

The Bears finished the season undefeated at 10-0.

“It’s something we worked hard on all season long, practiced Monday-Thursday. We continued to work, continued to get better,” Pritchett said.  “They put forward 110 percent every day that we practiced and it showed in the game.”

The Broncos finished the season on a sour note, but that didn’t mean the team didn’t have a lot to be proud of.

“We had 16 guys, 17 guys but now we don’t have but 14. They have to play both ways, they are tired and we pulled off second place and we were in the championship,” said Broncos coach Jason Rogers. “I’m very proud of them. It’s hard to win a football game.”
