Meadowview Christian didn’t make a shot from the field during the fourth quarter of Tuesday night’s game against North River. As it turns out, the Trojans didn’t need to.

Meadowview held on in the final seconds for a 36-32 win, even with primary ballhandler Mallory Freine on the bench.

“I didn’t realize until the bookkeeper showed me that we didn’t score but two points in the fourth quarter,” said Meadowview coach Lebo Jones. “I was surprised but that just shows you our will to win.”

Freine fouled out after fouling North River’s Sarah Robertson on a 3-pointer with 30 seconds left that pulled the Chargers within 36-34. Without her on the floor, Meadowview still got the ball down the floor and Hannah Thornton was fouled with 13.9 seconds left.

Thornton made both free throws, putting Meadowview up four and essentially icing the game.

“I was worried when [Mallory] fouled out,” Jones said.

“Our other two guards stepped up and handled the ball well in that situation. As Mallory goes, our team goes and it hurt when she fouled out, but I was proud of the girls for stepping up.”

Freine scored 18 points in the game to lead all scorers and Thornton had 13 points, including three 3-pointers.
