Dallas County shows up to the polls

Voters in Dallas County showed up to the polls in large numbers Tuesday to cast their vote in national, state and local issues, including the Presidential race.
Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump earned Alabama’s nine electoral votes, but Dallas County showed strong support for Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clinton with 68 percent of the vote.
Of the 32,514 registered voters in Dallas County, 18,906 went to the polls, which is a 58.15 percent turnout. Clinton received 12,826 votes, and Trump received 5,784.
Suzanne Ingram, chief clerk of the Dallas County Probate Office, said she was impressed with the turnout.
“It’s a great, large turnout,” Ingram said. “Almost 60 percent. That’s wonderful for Dallas County. It’s unusual, but we expected a big turnout because … they’ve told us 60 percent nation wide, and so that means Dallas County is right up there with the nation.”
Sen. Richard Shelby won the statewide race for United States Senator, but Ron Crumpton earned local support. Crumton had 12,380 votes to Shelby’s 6,053. Congresswoman Terri Sewell was also re-elected for as U.S. Representative for the 7th Congressional District. She earned 14,872 votes in Dallas County.
Don McMillan won Circuit Court Judge, 4th Judicial Circuit, Place No. 2, and Marvin Wiggins won re-election for Place No. 3. District Attorney Michael Jackson was also re-elected, earning 15,301 votes in Dallas County.
Valerie Reuben, Roy Moore, Curtis Williams, and Larry Nickles will serve as Dallas County Commissioners. Reuben had 3,805 votes, Moore had 3,333, Williams had 3,674 and Nickles had 4,493.
William Minor and Mark Story were elected to the Dallas County Board of Education.
