Numerous local public servants will leave office in the next two weeks

Monday marked the end of an era for the Dallas County Commission. The meeting was Commissioner Connell Towns last on the governing body. Come November, he will be replaced by Valerie Reubin in District 1.

More chapters came to a close Tuesday night as Selma Mayor George Evans and council members Cecil Williamson, B.L. Tucker and Bennie Ruth Crenshaw presided over their last council meeting. Wayne Labbe also decided to not seek another term as Valley Grande’s mayor.

Whatever your thoughts on these public servants and the job they did while in office, they should be saluted for being willing to serve and their work over the years. Being a politician — especially in a small town — is not an easy job. The pay’s not that great and the hours can be long.
