Albert Edward “Slim” Cooper

Albert Edward “Slim” Cooper, 97, of Selma passed away peacefully in Park Place Nursing Home on October 19, 2016.

He was born June 16, 1919, in Sylacauga, the son of the late Willie and Annie (McTigue) Cooper. Ed was a supervisor at Dallas Beverage Bottling Company retiring after 35 years of employment.

Ed was a member of Westwood Baptist Church, attending and supporting West End Baptist Church. He was a long-time member of the Oddfellows and very active in the Woodmen of the World selling insurance for many years and helping with their camp.

He is survived by his loving children; son and caregiver, Noel (Patricia) Cooper of Selma; daughters, Sandra (Ron) Dickinson of Middletown, Maryland, Joyce (Ronnie) Ross of Belvidere, New Jersey; stepdaughter, Nelda Johnson of Kennewick Washington; daughter-in-law, Eunice Lewellen; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil, Robert “Pete,” Leon and William “Harry;” sisters, Myrtle Edwards and Maxine Johnson; wives, Adell Cooper and Willie Cooper; son, Albert Edward Cooper Jr.; stepsons, J.C. (Sally) Lewellen, Paul (Doris) Lewellen and Rudolph Lewellen; grandsons, Glenn Lewellen, Rudy Lewellen; granddaughter, Sherry Tyler; great-grandson, Clayton Cooper; great-great-granddaughter, Cloe Cooper; and stepson-in-law, J.N. Johnson.

The family thanks the staff, nurses and aides at Park Place as well as Homestead Hospice for their loving care and to Lawrence Funeral Home for their kind and professional service shown to our family.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 24 in the chapel of Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home, 2900 Citizens Parkway, Selma, AL, 36701 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Daniel Martin officiating. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. until time of service.

Pallbearers will be Darrell, Clint and Dillan Cooper, Robert “Bubba” Moseley, Davy McClain and Gary Lewellen. Honorary pallbearers are Gregg Lewellen and Todd Cooper.

Flowers will be accepted but memorials are requested to two of Ed’s favorite charities, the Gideon’s International, P. O. Box 312 Selma, AL, 36702 or the Selma Food Bank, 497 Oak Street, Selma, AL, 36701.
