Main Street Selma is looking for someone to serve as its executive director. Long-time director Shebra Kidd, who led the organization from when it was known as the Downtown Selma Association, recently retired, and Jerria Martin, is currently serving as interim director.
The organization recently posted the opening on its website.
“It’s going to be a tough find,” said Clay Carmichael, president of Main Street Selma. “We’re just trying to get as many options as we can.”
Carmichael said Main Street’s next director will need to be well rounded and out going.
The director’s duties include coordinating activities, managing administrative aspects and developing economic development strategies, as well as many others.
“We want them to be outgoing, we want them to walk the streets and talk to the business owners downtown,” Carmichael said. “They’ll have to have an idea about budgets and finances, and they’ll have to have an idea about administration duties and grant writing is another thing.”
Carmichael said several prospects have already applied for the job. Carmichael is hoping to get even more by Nov. 15.
“We’re not counting out anyone that wants to move to Selma, but I think we want a local person that knows people and knows the town and can kind of hits the streets running,” Carmichael said.
People interested in applying for the job can view the full job listing at mainstreetalabama.org. Resumes and cover letters must be emailed to mainstreetselma@gmail.com by Nov. 15. The position pays between $24,000 to $30,000 as well as incentives and bonuses.
Main Street Selma has several events planned during October, including Downtown After Dark on Oct. 13, the Monster Mash Bash on Oct. 29 and the Monster March on Halloween. They are also teaming up with local artist Charlie Lucas for a social media campaign around downtown Selma where people are encouraged to find Jeffrey the Ghost.
Main Street Selma’s office is at Selma City Hall on Broad Street and can be reached at 874-2169.
