The Selma Rotary Club is raising money for the many projects they take part in each year by auctioning off a limited edition shotgun.
“What sort of prompted the idea is that I noticed this was Remington’s 200th anniversary and they put out these limited editions of some of their classic guns,” said John Nettles with the Selma Rotary Club.
“With Remington having recently moved one of their manufacturing facilities to Alabama and the Selma Rotary Club turning 100 years old this year, it just kind of seemed like it would be a fun thing to do.”
The shotgun is a Remington model 870 Wingmaster to commemorate the gun manufacturer’s anniversary. The company only made 2,016 guns, and that is how many tickets the club will be selling.
“We started selling tickets publicly this week,” Nettles said. “We’re selling them at the Central Alabama Fair, and then we’ll be selling them until Dec. 19 at the club’s Christmas social.”
Tickets will also be on sale at nine different locations around Selma. People can purchase tickets for $5 apiece or five tickets for $20 at Pine Belt Wireless, First Cahawba Bank, Trustmark Bank, Tally Ho Restaurant, Kentucky Fried Chicken, The Selma Times-Journal, Selcom, Boyd Financial Group and the Central Alabama Farmer’s Co-op.
The gun features an engraved 24-karat gold inlay with the company’s founder and a gold inlay medallion on the grip.
“It’s not a real hard sell,” Nettles said. “It’s a good-looking gun.”
People interested in looking at the gun can see it on display at the Central Alabama Farmer’s Co-op. The winner will be drawn at the Selma Rotary Club’s Christmas social on Dec. 19.
Nettles said the money from the raffle will be used to support local charities and other causes.
