Three local artists planning event to showcase local talent in Selma

Three local artists are planning an art walk on the first Saturday of each month from 8 a.m. to noon. Charlie “Tin Man” Lucas, Anne Strand and A.C. Reeves are hoping the walk will entice visitors and even locals to spend time downtown on the weekends.
Lucas’ studio has moved within a block or two of Reeves’ Gallery, Southland Studios, on 120 Lauderdale Street. Strand’s gallery, Anne Strand Designs is located at 26 Broad Street and Lucas’ gallery is at 9 Lauderdale Street.
One day the walk might grow even larger as more artists take part.
This is a great idea. Not only will it give visitors another reason to venture into Selma’s downtown following a stop at the Edmund Pettus Bridge, but it also gives locals something else to do on the first of each month.
Selma’s art community has made a lot of traction within the last year. ArtsRevive has been working through a three-phase capital campaign titled “The time for Selma is now.”
The Selma Art Guild held several events in the month of September and will hold a lecture on Oct. 9 on Clara Weaver Parrish.
There’s a lot to see in Selma — the Edmund Pettus Bridge and the Civil War history come to mind right off the bat — but the art community is making headway too.
