A “Howl-o-ween Carnival” being planned for next month will offer children and their four-legged friends a chance to have fun while raising money for a good cause.
The carnival will benefit Wannabe Rescued, Selma’s Purrrfect Pals and the Humane Society of Central Alabama.
“The most benefit is going to come from raising money for all the vetting needs and the adoption needs,” said Shannon Lynch, who is coordinating the event. “But also, I wanted something that was kid-friendly and pet-friendly, something really fun to do in Selma for Halloween.”
The Howl-o-ween Carnival will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at Phoenix Park on Water Avenue and will feature carnival games, food, a pet parade, photo booth and more.
Admission is $1 per person, while tickets will be sold for the different games. The event also has several business sponsors.
Lynch said she has been thinking about the carnival for some time now, and she is excited to make that idea a reality this year.
“It’s really been in my head for the last couple of Halloweens, and it just all came together this year,” Lynch said.
Lynch said she also wants to use the carnival as a way to teach children about animals and pet adoption.
“[The carnival] not only lets them have fun, but teaches them to appreciate animals at a young age,” Lynch said.
“As much fun as the carnival is, adopting your best friend is a million times better, and it lasts all year long.”
Lynch said she is also looking for volunteers to help set up and operate some of the games. Those interested in volunteering should contact Lynch at 327-8414.
“We encourage people to come out and have fun, but also know that they’re having fun, and it’s going for such a good cause,” Lynch said.
