High school football officially starts Friday night with a loaded schedule of games.

Keith will host Winterboro, Meadowview Christian will host Victory Christian, Ellwood Christian will play at Wilcox Central and Morgan Academy will play Edgewood Academy in Montgomery.

Southside and Dallas County will also play Friday, but the Hornets and Panthers will meet in a jamboree and not a regular season game.

We have no doubt that it’s going to be a great season, but we want to also remind everyone to be safe on their travels to games around the state. In Selma, traffic isn’t usually a problem, but after football games Dallas Avenue gets fairly crowded, especially when there’s a game at the stadium, Meadowview and Morgan Academy.

The good news is that there’s only a 20 percent chance of rain Friday night, according to the National Weather Service. For an area that has had whole nights of games stopped due to weather in recent years, that’s good news for everyone.
