Morgan wins third straight in volleyball

MONTGOMERY — Morgan Academy (3-1) opened region play Tuesday in Montgomery with a four set victory over Hooper Academy. It was the third straight win for the Lady Senators who started fast and finished in a flurry winning 25-14, 25-21, 15-25 and 25-15.
Morgan is now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in region play.
Morgan controlled the tempo against the Lady Colts in the first two sets, lost the momentum in the third, and then rallied to put Hooper away in the fourth.
Senior Cassidy Lawrence recorded a game high 16 assists for Morgan and McKenzie Williams and Regan Hewitt paced the offensive attack with 11 and 8 kills respectively.
Morgan’s defense was solid with Hannah Free, Meredith Hand, Kenzie Horton, Mary Vince Lewis, Mary Grace Morgan, and Maggie Colley contributing in the victory, and Colley — a 9th grader -—closed the game with an ace.
The Lady Senators will take their three match winning streak on the road Thursday when they travel to Linden to face Marengo Academy at 5 p.m.
In earlier action Tuesday in Montgomery, the Morgan JV team remained undefeated on the season by beating Hooper 25-9 and 25-14 to improve to 4-0. The JV team was led by Tindall Albritton who had six kills and Abbie Bohannon and Faith Lane with three assists each. The JV is yet to lose a set.
