Selma’s Dixie Boys baseball team returned home from Pineville, Louisiana on Tuesday evening to a warm welcome.
The Selma Police Department and Selma Fire Department surprised the team with an escort to Memorial Stadium, where a group of supporters was waiting on their arrival. They were treated like hometown heroes and received the welcome they deserved.
The players and coaches should be extremely proud of everything they accomplished this season. There are many 14-year-old boys that wish they had an opportunity to play in the Dixie Boys Baseball World Series.
Selma got to live that dream and even won a couple of games while it was there. Although the players may not have realized it, they had a lot of support at home. Facebook was a popular place to find scores, and we tried our best to keep a scoreboard updated throughout the week. However, when a score was nowhere to be found, people were begging for more details.
It was clear this team meant a lot to the city of Selma.
We want to be among the first to wish the team congratulations for all they accomplished this year, but also thank them for giving us a reason to cheer loudly about our city.
