Paul Vann Deason

Mr. Paul Vann Deason, 84, died Wednesday, July 26, 2016, at Coosa Valley Medical Center.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Ernest Deason; mother, Ella Loutishie Deason; wife of 46 years, Carolyn J. Wilson Deason; brothers, Harold Deason, Eugene Deason and Carmen Deason; and sister, Helen Gay.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose charm and sense of humor was adored by many.

Deason gave many years of his life to the church and youth through music and was also a Deacon at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove.

He served his country for four years in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bentley Deason; four children, Lucy D. Howard, Vicki Lynn Deason Davis, Phillip R. Deason and Tish Deason; two step-children, Dr. Michael P. Bentley and Kimberly B. Kretzer; ten grandchildren, Joshua Paul Davis, Robert D. Howard, Dylan Davis Raney, Preston Paul Howard, Samantha Jo Courts, Phillip Bentley Kretzer, Jordan Elizabeth Kretzer, Matthew Paul Kretzer, Kristin Bentley Smith and Dr. Kathryn Ashley Bentley; and ten great-grandchildren, Landon Howard Davis, Bentley Lynn Hall, Jonah P. Raney, Jackson David Howard, Avery Ann Howard, Miles McGowan Howard, Grant Sellars Howard, Robert Pierce Howard, Ashley Armstrong Smith and William Laurens Smith.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 28, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Radney-Smith Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Friday, July 29, beginning at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove with the Rev. Max Buttram officiating. Burial will be in Marble City Cemetery in Sylacauga.
