Former Vol Johnson to speak at Wallace

Former Tennessee Volunteer’s defensive back Inky Johnson will speak at a football kickoff banquet Sunday at Wallace Community College Selma.

The event is being sponsored by All in Sports Outreach, a nonprofit ministry organization that focuses on spreading the word of God through athletics. Johnson was injured during the Tennessee-Air Force game in 2006.

His arm was paralyzed on the play — a routine tackle. Johnson has traveled the country in the years since, telling his story as a motivational speaker.

“Our whole entire goal with him coming is to talk to these high school football players here in the Dallas County and surrounding areas,” said Weston Mason with All in One Sports Outreach. “We want to share the message of never give up, despite whatever happens.”

Mason said the speaking event is for high school football players and will take place at Wallace’s gymnasium.  The event is free and will take place at 5:30 p.m.

KFC is providing supper for free.

“Basically, we want to have all the football teams come together and mingle and just get to know each other,” Mason said. “That’s the idea — to get everyone together, listen to Inky and have a good time.”
