Selma should be proud of its all-stars

To say it’s been a big week for the Selma 7-and 8-year-old All-star team, would be a major understatement.
The team nearly accomplished something no city of Selma baseball team has accomplished since the 1980s when they reached the semifinals of the Dixie AA tournament in Wetumpka.
At that point, they were two wins from a state championship.
Unfortunately, the ball didn’t bounce their way in the final game of the tournament and Selma lost 15-8 to Taylorville.
However, the boys on the team and the coaches have so much to be proud of. The team won eight straight games at one point and nearly made it out of the loser’s bracket to reach the championship game.
That in itself is a large accomplishment.
The team was welcomed by the Selma City Council and mayor at Tuesday night’s council meeting. They made a circle through the council chambers, giving each member of the council a high-five.
Hopefully, the council and mayor will get to give out many more high-fives in the next few weeks. Selma still has every other all-star team still playing in state tournament play.
Hopefully all of them will come back to Selma with state championship trophies.
