A new business in Selma will give children something fun to do, while also helping them excel in school.

Kidz Klubhouse opened in Selma in June and is a dual service designed specifically for kids tutoring and party rentals.

The tutoring services will offer homework help, reading and math help, project and book report assistance, and one-on one-tutoring.

Registration for tutoring will be held August 24-26 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and the fee is $25. Tutoring services are geared toward students in grades K-5. The cost is $60 per month.

Tutoring will begin on Sept. 5 and will be open Tuesdays through Fridays from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Snacks will be provided to students before their tutoring sessions begin each day.

Alisha Cleveland, owner of Kids Klubhouse and Selma City Schools educator, expressed how much she enjoys being around children and felt that there was a need to give back to the community by offering after school and party services.

“I’ve had many parents to ask me of any places for their child to go to for tutoring when they’re struggling in the classrooms,” Cleveland said. “I wanted to try to come up with an affordable price for parents since many after school programs prices range around $125 a month.”

The 33-year-old earned her bachelor’s degree in early childhood and elementary education from Auburn University at Montgomery and a master’s degree in elementary education from the University of West Alabama. She has earned her Instructional Leadership Certification from AUM, and will soon earn her doctorate in transformational leadership from Concordia University in Portland next year.

For 11 years, Cleveland taught first grade at Clark Elementary School and taught fifth grade math, social studies and science at Southlawn Elementary School in Montgomery for a year.

The Klubhouse will also offer kids parties, and it’s $75 to reserve a date. Party packages are $225, which includes tablecloths, cups, balloons, plates and clean-up. The maximum party guests allowed is 15 people.

Parties will only be for Saturdays and Sundays.

There are three party slots on Saturdays, and the times are 12 p.m. -2 p.m., 3 p.m. -5 p.m., and 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  There are two party slots on Sundays from 1 p.m. -3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. -5:30 p.m.

“We don’t have many party venues in Selma; therefore, many people go out of town to have parties, and I wanted to tie in children parties along with the tutoring services,” Cleveland said.

There will also be a book bag giveaway filled with school supplies on Saturday, Aug.  6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Kids Klubhouse is located at 2802 Citizens Pkwy Suite D. To book a party, buy a ticket for the book bag giveaway or register your child for tutoring, call Cleveland at (334) 292-0755.
