Senior citizens will have the chance to strut their stuff next weekend during the city of Selma Fashion Show coming up.
The city of Selma Fashion Show will be on June 25 at 6 p.m. in front of the St. James Hotel on Water Avenue. Admission is free.
Organizers hope the event will become something to look forward to every year.
The show’s categories will be an evening wear, sports wear and Sunday’s Best.
Participants need to be 65 and above to participate in the show.
Registration is still ongoing and the cut-off date will be this Friday. Approximately 35 people have signed up thus far.
“We just want to give our senior citizens the opportunity to have something to do,” said Councilman Samuel Randolph, who is organizing the event along with Venecia Eaton. “We’re trying to create an atmosphere where seniors will feel like they’re apart of Selma.”
Randolph hopes that the fashion show will uplift the participants and boost their confidence.
“We just want them to feel appreciated because we appreciate our citizens,” said Randolph.
Eaton said the fashion show was inspired by the senior citizen prom that was previously held in May.
“When we had our senior citizen prom, everyone was showing off their dresses, so we decided to give them another chance to show off their fashion,” said Eaton.
For more information or to participate in the show, call Councilman Samuel Randolph at (334) 349-2004 or Venecia Eaton at (334) 874-2105.
