Selma man turns himself in to authorities after allegedly shooting a man in the back Sunday night.

Ronardo Lewis, 39, was arrested and charged with first-degree assault after being accused of shooting a 29-year-old Selma man during an altercation.

“After the altercation, the suspect came to the police department and turned himself in,” said Selma Police Department’s Lt. Sam Miller.

Miller said Lewis and the victim were leaving a party when the two got into a verbal altercation in the suspect’s vehicle.

The situation escalated, according to authorities, into a physical confrontation both inside and outside the vehicle.

Miller said, at some point, the suspect pulled out a 9mm firearm and shot the victim once in the back.

The suspect was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center and later released.

Lewis appeared in Judge Robert Armstrong’s court for a bond hearing on Monday.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said prosecutors asked for a $250,000 bond, but a $20,000 bond was set.

Lewis will return to court June 7 for a preliminary hearing.
