Hubbard Harris Maroney Sr.

Hubbard Harris Maroney Sr., age 86, died on April 29, 2016, at Vaughn Regional Medical Center in Selma.
He was born March 9, 1930, in Selma, the only child of Burns Maroney and Madeline DeWitt Maroney of Thomaston.
Hubbard graduated from Marengo County High School and attended East Mississippi Community College.
He received his Bachelors of Science degree in education from Livingston University in 1955, and his master’s degree in administration from the University of Montevallo in 1974.
Following college graduation, he married Barbara Holston of Linden.
Hubbard was an outstanding coach whose career spanned from 1955 to 1972 and included time at Holt High School, Perry County High School, Opelika High School and Selma High School. Following his time as a coach, he became an administrator, retiring in 1988.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara Holston Maroney of Selma; sons, Hubbard Harris Maroney Jr. (Robin) of Linden, and Albert Holston Maroney (Angie) of Selma; daughter, Lena Ann Maroney of Birmingham; granddaughters, Anna Maroney Vice and Holston Maroney Drinkard of Linden; grandson, Clinton Holston Maroney of Selma and four great-grandchildren.
He was a dedicated member of Elkdale Baptist Church for 48 years. He was known as a man of integrity who is remembered for touching the lives of everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be Monday, May 2 at Elkdale Baptist Church, located at 2221 Elkdale Street in Selma, from 10-11 a.m. with services following at 11 a.m.
