Persinger named SSAC player of week

Auburn University Montgomery outfielder Amy Persinger was selected the Southern States Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the league office announced Monday.
Persinger, a Dallas County High School graduate, led the Warhawks to a 7-1 finish on the week, and a 32-3 (8-2 SSAC) record overall. She picked up a hit in all eight games during the week, and added at least two RBIs in five of the contests. On the base paths, she contributed two stolen bases.
She added a total of 10 hits during the week, and also tallied nine runs scored on three home runs and two doubles. Her week was highlighted with a 2-for-4 performance against Blue Mountain on March 28 where she hit a double and had a home run, four RBIs and two scored two runs.
Persinger helped the Warhawks to a sweep of Bethel on Friday. AUM won the games 3-0 and 6-4. Persinger finished the first game 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, and provided the winning runs in game two with a two RBI single up the middle in the top of the seventh inning.
Nationally, Persinger ranks 12th with nine home runs, and currently leads the Warhawks in home runs. She is also ranked 36th in slugging percentage (.773). At the conference level, she is tied for first in total home runs and ranks second in slugging percentage, third in total bases (68), fifth in total RBIs (29), ninth in RBI/game (0.83) and 11th in batting average (.386).
