Albert Francis “Sonny” Caley

Albert Francis “Sonny” Caley, 92, of Marion Junction, passed away on March 31, 2016.

Mr. Caley was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Moore Caley of 64 years; his parents, Albert Francis Caley Sr. and Helen Schoville Caley; brother, Marshall Schoville Caley and sister, Mabel Kelley Carlton.

He is survived by his daughter, Frances Caley (Bruce) Henderson of Selma; son, Thomas Franklin (Margaret) Caley of Birmingham; grandchildren, Kimberly Henderson (William) Lyon of Benton, Ellen Henderson (Josh) Warren of Madison, Wisconsin, Leland Caley (Robert) Record of Birmingham and Thomas Franklin (Alanna) Caley Jr. of Birmingham; 11 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John Thomas (Christine) Moore of Marion Junction; and long-time assistant and friend, John Bell of Marion Junction.

Mr. Caley was a graduate of Orrville High School and Auburn University, where he was a member of the Alpha Gama Rho fraternity. In WWII, he served with MARS on the Burma Trail. After the war and graduation, he began his farming career.

As a life-long member of the Marion Junction Methodist Church, he served in leadership positions and taught Sunday school for many years. He was a long-time board member for the Central Alabama Farmers Co-op, the Marion Junction Farmers Co-op, Marion Junction Cemetery Association, and the Marion Junction State Bank (First Dallas County Bank). He was a former official and member of the Dallas County Soil Conservation Committee, Alabama Soil and Water Committee, Alabama Farmers Federation, Selma-Dallas County Chamber of Commerce, and the Dallas County Cattlemen’s Association.

He was a recipient of the Alabama Wildlife Federation Soil Conservationist of the year, the W. Kelly Moseley Environmental Award and the Kiwanis Club farmer of the year. He was also inducted into the Alabama Agricultural Hall of Fame.

Graveside services will be Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the Marion Junction Cemetery with the Rev. Joel Farrow officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.
