Hard work pays off for six who signed Wednesday

Another National Signing Day has come and gone and six more Dallas County area football players are heading to play college football.
Selma’s Aderick Moore, Quintez Blevins, Herschell Brown and Marquell Moorer; Southside’s Khamari Gibbs, and Morgan Academy J.R. Wood all signed Wednesday and are officially a part of college programs.
Students from Dallas County and Keith may also sign in the upcoming days.
While not everyone wants to play football, the six students who signed Thursday will hopefully inspire other students to dream big. Thousands upon thousands of people wish they had an opportunity to play college ball in their lives and these six will get to do so in the near future.
They spent the time in the weight room during the summer and didn’t quit when the scoreboard was lopsided in the other team’s favor. They practiced through the hot spring and early August temperatures and stuck it out when the weather turned cold in October and November.
That’s quite a commitment, although they didn’t do it alone. Parents, friends and teachers also played a role in each player’s journey and kept them along the right path.
This was a unique group too. Several of the players that signed are on track to earn an associate’s degree before graduating high school, which would put them on the fast track to earning a bachelor’s degree.
We’re hopeful that other students take notice. Not everyone is good at throwing or catching a football, but there are scholarships out there for those that try hard in the classroom and for those that have a unique talent.
Congratulations to those that signed Thursday and good luck in the classroom and on the field at your new colleges.
