Time to step up on the scales

We’ve written many articles over the years about the health problems our state and region face. Obesity, which brings problems like high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol, is way too common.
Anyone who has ever tried to lose weight knows that it can be a challenge. But several agencies across Selma have rallied behind Scale Back Alabama. The program is now in its 10th year. Last year 14,288 teams participated in the competition, losing a record 79,942 pounds.
Dallas County has three weigh-in locations for Scale Back Alabama. The last day for Vaughan Regional Medical Center and Alabama Cooperative Extension System is today at 5 p.m. The YMCA of Selma-Dallas County will have its last weigh-in day on Sunday from 2-4 p.m.
Every year, Scale Back Alabama awards multiple cash prizes for teams and individuals. Teams will be eligible to win up to $2,000.
We think the effort is a great way to start combating some of the health problems in our community and encourage people to register for this year’s Scale Back Alabama.
