Mike Lutzenkirchen spoke to Morgan Academy students Monday morning about the importance of making the right decisions, such as not drinking and driving.

Mike’s son was Philip Lutzenkirchen, who was a star at Auburn University during his football playing days.

He caught 14 touchdowns as a Tiger, including seven during his junior season.

Sadly, Philip’s life ended in a single car accident age the age of 23 in 2014. The four people in the car that evening, including Philip, had been drinking and made a poor decision to get into a vehicle.

Since his son’s death, Mike has travelled the state talking to youth about how one poor decision can change their entire life.  He started the Lutzie 43 Foundation in his son’s honor with a focus on making a difference in young people’s lives.

Philip’s life ended way too soon, but his story is impacting thousands of others.

Drinking and driving is dangerous and allowing a friend to do it means allowing them to put their own life in danger.

Every 51 minutes in America, someone is killed in a drunk driving crash, and someone is injured in a drunk driving incident every 120 seconds, according to DoSomething.org, an organization for young people trying to enact social change.

Mike encouraged students at Morgan to be a good friend by courageously standing up to others about to make a poor decision. It might mean saving their life, or even your own.
