After months of discussion and planning, the transition between Advanced Disposal and Sea Coast Disposal is here.

Advanced Disposal will run routes this week as normal Monday through Thursday.

All Advanced Disposal carts should be taken to the curb on collection day and left there until picked up.

Advanced Disposal route driver Darryl Blair stresses the importance of leaving carts at the curb. He said the company will be running one truck to collect garbage and carts and will have to make multiple trips.

While garbage will be collected this week, people’s empty carts may be left for another day.

After the last route is ran Thursday, the company will continue working every day to collect any missing carts. There are approximately 6,000 Advanced Disposal carts throughout the city, and collection may take up to two weeks, according to Balir.

Mayor George Evans discussed the plans at Thursday night’s council work session. He encouraged people to make sure to put carts out on the curb since they belong to Advanced Disposal and not the city.

The city’s code enforcement will work with Advanced Disposal to make sure carts are collected. Evans said Advanced Disposal will not enter people’s property to collect carts.

Sea Coast Disposal has been working to distribute carts around town, and that work will continue this week. Matthew Brigance, president of Sea Coast Disposal, said the company will try to have all customers a new cart by the time Advanced Disposal picks their carts up.

Sea Coast Disposal will pick up garbage on Tuesdays through Fridays. Customers who had Monday collection with Advanced will now be picked up on Fridays.

This means current Monday customers will have their garbage picked up by Advanced on Jan. 25 but will have to wait until Feb. 5 for their first Sea Coast collection.
