Deion Daniel has tried his hand at delivering pizza and telemarketing, but now he wants to take a shot at starting his own business that delivers food from restaurants that don’t offer delivery service.
“I worked at Pizza Hut … and I realized they were one of the only people delivering food,” Daniel said.
“We don’t have that market in Selma where you can [get delivery] from any restaurant, so one day I just thought about it. So I said why don’t I deliver for every restaurant, just not pizza or Chinese?”
Daniel said the way Drivers will work is people will call him to pick up their orders from whatever restaurant in Selma they want food from. Daniel said he then picks it up and delivers it right to their front door for a $5 fee.
“I wanted to start a business that can help people,” Daniel said. “You’re paying $5, but basically it is for the people that want bigger orders, and you can order more than one thing.”
Daniel, who is working on finishing up an electrical certificate at Wallace Community College Selma, said it was a dream to start his own business.
“I always wanted my own business,” Daniel said. “I worked at a telemarketing place in Birmingham … and he instilled in me that I should have my own business.”
Daniel has spent the last few days driving around town delivering fliers to dozens of schools and businesses to get the word out about Drivers, his new food delivery service, but now he is ready to start delivering food to potential customers.
“I’ve really been doing it all day every day until like 7 p.m.,” Daniel said. “I wake up every morning at 7:30 a.m., and I go from there. I do the same thing every day. I print out 100 copies and I try to pass them out in some kind of way every day.”
Daniel said Driver is ready for business after he was approved for a business license with the city and county, and he is more than ready to handle his first delivery.
“I’ll probably cry when I get my first phone call,” Daniel said with a smile. “I’m going to be so excited because it’s actually me working for myself.”
Daniel said he can be reached for orders at 419-7272, and he is more than ready to start forming a customer base. Drivers’ hours will be from 10:30 a.m. until 9 p.m.
