The Selma Art Guild is hosting an Easy Pastel Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. taught by Toska Courbron. The cost to attend is $85 before Oct. 29. After that, the cost is $95.
Selma Art Guild president Sally Jordan said the pastel workshop should appeal to everyone regardless of their background in art.
“I think people who are leery about painting can feel really good about this, and they can go ahead and succeed here where maybe they didn’t have a lot of success in painting,” Jordan said.
Courbron is most well-known for her work with watercolor, but also does plenty of work with pastels. The morning of the workshop will consist of Courbron doing a pastel demonstration.
She will go over some of the techniques, and then let everyone try their hand at painting with pastels.
“That just helps you get a base,” Jordan said. “’OK, I can see what she does, now how can I go back and do that?’”
Another incentive for beginners to come to the pastel workshop is that pastels are less permanent than other paint.
“You can fix mistakes. People like that. I like that,” Jordan said.
Jordan said that if someone decides to bring pastels, it should be dry pastels not oil pastels.
Those who sign up for the workshop should also plan to bring their own lunch, but drinks and dessert will be provided.
Jordan is hoping for a strong turnout at the Selma Art Guild on Oct. 31.
“I think it will be a good workshop, and I just hope we can get enough people to make it go,” Jordan said.
