Esosa Aghedo couldn’t hold back the tears of joy when she heard her name announced as the 2015 Distinguished Young Woman of Dallas County.

Aghedo won a $3,000 cash scholarship for becoming the newest member of the Distinguished Young Women of Dallas County Saturday night. Sophie Talton was named as the runner-up and won a $2,000 cash scholarship and Mary Stewart was named as second runner-up and won a $1,500 cash scholarship.

Aghedo also earned an additional $1,250 in scholarship money for various other awards she won. Aghedo’s parents are Osa and Sarah Aghedo. She is home schooled.

“I’ve worked for months preparing for this and at the end, it definitely paid off. I couldn’t be happier,” Aghedo said.

Aghedo is currently undecided on where she wants to attend college, but she plans to study dietetics and dance. She wants to become a registered dietician.

“It means everything to me honestly because scholarship money will help me out a lot and I’m just ready to see whatever the future holds,” Aghedo said.
