Concordia College Alabama is offering its students and the community an opportunity to attend the first ever Plan 2 Plan workshop series.

Like its title, the series will provide attendees with information on how to plan for their future and key aspects of what they can do now to get where they want to be.

“We want to produce productive citizens here at Concordia,” said Dr. Chinwe Dkeke, honors program director at Concordia. “It’s information that we want to present to our students to make sure that they are well prepared for society.”

The series will kick off with a “What’s My Vision” lecture from Nashville attorney and Selma native Ainka Jackson.

Jackson is a graduate of Spelman College and Vanderbilt University Law School. She is a member of the Tennessee bar and currently a metro guardian ad litem at the Metropolitan Nashville Public Defenders Office.

Jackson will talk to the students and members of the community about various topics dealing with their future.

“Many of the workshop series are things that students need to be equipped with as they present themselves to the Selma community and the global world,” Dkeke said. “We really want citizens who know how to dress for success; we want citizens who know how to conduct themselves accordingly on social media; we want citizens who know how to contribute to their community through volunteerism and political activism.”

Dkeke stressed the importance of volunteering and said she always encourages her students to be active in their community and give back to those that who really need it.

“We want to explain to them that it doesn’t have to be a big project to help someone, it can be a small act of kindness that really, really helps them be a better person,” Dkeke said.

The workshop is meant to empower the students to accomplish great things in their life, starting with basic ideals.

“We hope that this workshop series will prepare our students to go on to the next level of education or the workforce,” Dkeke said. “We really want to equip our students with all the tools they need to be successful both here at Concordia and beyond. That’s really what we hope to achieve.”

The Plan 2 Plan workshop series will begin Wednesday in the Wright Auditorium on Concordia’s campus from 12:15 p.m. through 1:15 p.m. and will continue every Wednesday for the remainder of the semester for a total of 13 lectures.

The public is invited to attend the free workshops, and lunch will be served.

“We do invite the community to come and see what we’re doing here at Concordia,” Dkeke said.
