Warrants have been issued for a fourth suspect who is believed to have been involved with a fatal drive-by shooting last week that killed one man and injured two others.
According to Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department warrants were issued to the Major Crimes Unit for the arrest of 21-year-old Jarmarkus Deon Brown Tuesday afternoon.
“Jarmarkus Brown was the fourth occupant of the suspects’ vehicle during the shooting,” Muhannad said.
Warrants for Brown were issued for capital murder, two counts of attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, the same charges that were filed for the other three alleged passengers.
One suspect, 26-year-old Markus Latrel Brown, turned himself in to police last Friday after a warrant was issued for his arrest.
The other two suspects, 39-year-old Kevin Delano Johnson and 34-year-old Reginald Brown, were arrested late Monday night by U.S. Marshals. Details of their arrest have not been released.
Investigators believe all four alleged shooters are related, and the shooting may have been an act of revenge.
“We believe that one of the motives is one of the suspects’, Kevin Johnson, his son was shot here a couple of months ago,” Muhannad said.
“Also, one of their relatives was shot and killed on the base, and Mr. Markus Brown was assaulted and robbed in the Selmont area. We believe all three things are what lead up to the vengeance.”
The shooting happened last Wednesday, July 22 around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. Highway 80 East and Roosevelt Avenue.
According to investigators, the three victims were stopped at the traffic light waiting to turn when shots were fired from what one of the victims described as a tan or cream-colored Chevrolet Tahoe.
Investigators believe the shots came from high-powered assault rifles because of the shell casings that were recovered at the scene.
“No weapons have been recovered, only spent shell casings from the crime scene,” Muhannad said.
A 26-year-old, 33-year-old and 34-year-old were shot. The 26-year-old, who was identified as Tobias Cooper by Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, was pronounced dead at Vaughan Regional Medical Center from gunshot wounds to the stomach and thigh.
The 33-year-old, who was shot in the hand, was treated and later released from the hospital, and the 34-year-old, who was shot in the head, is still listed as being in critical condition as of Wednesday afternoon at a Montgomery hospital. Muhannad hoped to soon have more information on his condition.
“He is still in critical condition as far as we know,” Muhannad said. “We haven’t spoken with the hospital staff yet, but the primary investigator is going to go there and try to meet with the family.”
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jarmarkus Brown is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 874-2588 or 1-866-442-7463.
