John Wilby Brislin Jr., age 67, former resident of Selma, and a resident of Orange Beach, passed away Monday, July 27, 2015.
Johnny was a descendant of one of the pioneer families in Central Alabama. He was a retired educator in the Dallas County School System where he taught for 30 years.
He also served on the Selma City Council from 1980 to 1984. John was involved with the First Baptist Church of Selma and First Presbyterian Church in Selma and Orange Beach. Throughout his life he was active with the Jaycees, Elks Lodge and the Boy Scouts. Johnny was also an accomplished musician. While he could play many instruments, saxophone was his passion. He was a founding member of the bands, Friday and the Weekends and Fourteen Feet of Soul. Johnny also played saxophone for the Livingston University Marching Band from 1966-1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wilby and Bobbie Boozer Brislin.
Johnny is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Y. Brislin of Orange Beach; three sons, Drew (Allison) Brislin of Tuscaloosa, Allen (Molly) Brislin of Austin, Texas, and Dan Brislin of Tuscaloosa; two daughters, Amanda McLaughlin of Selma and Elizabeth (Terrance) Wilson of Pensacola, Fla.; and five grandchildren, Margaret McLaughlin, Caine McLaughlin, Finn Brislin, Myles Wilson and Sophia Wilson.
A celebration of Johnny’s Life will be held Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Selma at 3 p.m.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a favorite charity.
