The Selma Police Department is investigating a Wednesday night shooting that left one man dead and two others injured.
According to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, officers responded to the 2600 block of Tipton Street around 9:33 p.m. in reference to multiple gunshot victims.
“When officers arrived at the scene, they made contact with three black males in a silver pickup,” Muhannad said in a press release. “The 26-year-old black male had been shot twice, once in the thigh and the other in the abdomen.”
Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson identified the 26-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the hospital, as Tobias Cooper.
A 33-year-old and 34-year-old were also shot, according to Muhannad.
The 34-year-old, who is still in critical condition, was shot in the head, and the 33-year-old was shot in the hand.
“Investigators were advised by the 33-year-old victim … that a tan and/or cream colored [Chevrolet] Tahoe was at the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and U.S. Highway 80 East … stopped at the traffic light,” Muhannad said. “When they approached the intersection and turned onto Roosevelt [Avenue], the suspects in the Tahoe opened fired on their vehicle.”
All three victims were transported to the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center by private vehicle for treatment, according to Muhannad.
“The 26-year-old was pronounced deceased at the ER, the 34-year-old was transported to a hospital in the Montgomery area for treatment and the 33-year-old was treated and released,” Muhannad said.
Muhannad said the 34-year-old that was shot in the head is still in critical condition.
“We haven’t spoken to the medical team directly, so we don’t know what the expectations are as far as recovery,” Muhannad said.
No arrests have been made yet, and Muhannad said there is no motive for the shooting as of Thursday afternoon.
“We’re trying to identify a possible owner of the tan Tahoe,” Muhannad said. “We’re trying to identify anyone that may have been involved in some type of conflict that may have been the motive to the shooting.”
The Selma Police Department is asking for anyone with information on the case to call Crime Stoppers at 874-2588 or 1-866-442-7463.
