Marion-Funeral services for LTC (R) James Oliver Cochran, age 85, will at held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at Pleasant Valley UMC in Hale County with brother Steve Knox and brother Tom Terry officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening, July 14, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home, 805 Birmingham Road, Centreville.
James Cochran died in Midland, Ga. on July 12, 2015.
He served for 26 years as a field artillery officer in the United States Army retiring in 1974. He later served as a principal and school administrator with the Perry County School System.
James was preceded in death by his father, James H. Cochran; mother, Mattie L. Cochran; and brothers, John T. Cochran, Marcus L. Cochran and Bobbie G. Cochran, all from Perry County.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Nancy Barnette Cochran; four children, Rita C. Lashober (Jim) of Columbus, Ga.,  James G. Cochran Sr. (Susan) of Heiberger, Marcus A. Cochran (Denise) of Huntsville and Ronald G. Cochran (Gail) of Northport; seven grandchildren, Jimmy D. Laschober, James G. Cochran Jr., Michael S. Laschober, Arielle C. Ingram, Matthew W. Cochran, Erica N. Cochran and Jessica L. Cochran; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn Laschober, Zachary Laschober, Alexandria Ingram, Cloey Ingram, Kaylen Cochran and Kody Cochran; brothers, William (Boe) H. Cochran (Guin) of Marion and Earnest E. Cochran (Faye) of Greensboro; and sister, Elizabeth C. Johnson (Jimmy) of Marion.
In lieu of flowers, James requested donations be made to Pleasant Valley UMC, 814 Ironville Road, Marion, AL 36756 or Calvary Baptist Church in care of William Smith, 165 March Lane, Marion, AL  36756.
