Selma Art Guild and Gallery will honor some homegrown artists this weekend.

The guild’s annual Summer Juried Art Exhibition will take place on Sunday, June 14 in downtown Selma.

The event is open to the public and will exhibit artistic talents from around the community.

“It will be a very interesting show. We have abstract, realism, a good variety of different mediums,” said Joanna Nichols, Art Guild committee member.

There are five categories that the art will be categorized under transparent, opaque, photography, 3D and mixed media. There are numerous subcategories that fall within the categories.

The Selma Art Guild & Gallery received more than 90 entries this year. Artists range in age from early 20s to mid-70s.

Scott Stephens will be the judge of the exhibition. He is a printmaker and professor of art and chair at the University of Montevallo in Shelby County.

There will be three winners in each category: first place, second place and third place as well as an honorable mention.

A Best of Show will be selected from the winners and will receive a $500 prize award. The category winners will also be given cash prizes.

The exhibition will be located at the Selma Art Guild Gallery, 508 Selma Avenue in Selma.

The show will start Sunday at 2 p.m. and finish at 4 p.m.

Winners will be announced at approximately 3 p.m.

The gallery will continue to be open on Fridays and Saturdays afternoons in June from noon to 4 p.m.
