The Selma High School girls’ basketball team won all three of its games at a playdate at Greensboro High School on Thursday.

“We did pretty good,” said Selma head coach Anthony Harris. “We looked decent with the numbers we had. We don’t have the size we had with J’tia White last year, but we didn’t have any breakdowns and the defense looked good. We are going to be able to run and play good quality defense this year.”

Selma defeated Linden, Greensboro and R. C. Hatch. Each game consisted of two 10-minute runtimes.

Harris said he was impressed with upcoming freshman Tasharri Grimes’ ball handling skills.

“She showed a sign of brilliance yesterday,” Harris said. “She has good floor awareness, but she needs to gain a little weight. She don’t shoot that much, but she can handle that ball. I’m going to be honest, she is about the smoothest 8th grader I have seen with that ball. They were pressing us and she wasn’t turning the ball over. Right now she is getting used to the system, but she is going to help us this upcoming season.”

Hollie Hopkins, Kaymiyah Chaney and Kynadra Lewis sustained minor ankle injuries at the playdate, Harris said.

Harris said Lewis may be ready to play as soon as Monday, when the team travels to Keith High School.
