The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Alabama River Lakes will host its 21st annual free Kids Catfish Rodeo Friday at 7:30 a.m. at the Lowndes County Wildlife Management Area for children ages 15 and under.
“It’s a family event and something to do for the children,” said John Williams, park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. “We try to have this event every year about this time. We had a great turn out last year and we are looking for a great turnout this year.”
Participants must bring their own pole and bait and be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be served.
Williams said the free fishing rodeo offers quality time for parents and their children and is an opportunity to give back to the community.
“A lot of kids don’t get the opportunity to go fishing,” Williams said. “This is a good opportunity for the child to come out so we can show them how to use a reel and rod, bait a hook and be safe on the water as well. We are trying to give the children something they will always remember.”
