The Selma Police Department is investigating an attempted murder after a 48-year-old man was shot Monday night on Lauderdale Street.

According to Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department, officers responded to a call of a gunshot victim around 8:39 p.m. The address listed on the incident reports from the SPD shows the call came from the Snack Food Mart.

“When officers arrived at the scene they made contact with a black male, age 48, who had been shot in the upper torso,” Muhannad said. “Officers assisted the victim with immediate medical assistance.”

The 48-year-old told officers that he was shot on Lauderdale Street, a few blocks away from where officers made contact with him.

The victim was not able to identify who shot him, and no arrests have been made at this time.

“The victim was transported by the local ambulance service to White Hall to be airlifted to a hospital in the Montgomery County area,” Muhannad said. “The victim was in stable condition.”

The Selma Police Department is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 874-2588 or 874-2190 or the Criminal Investigation Division at 874-2125. Calls will be kept confidential, and a cash reward could be awarded.
