A 36-year-old Selma woman was arrested Saturday afternoon after allegedly trying to rob a gas station on the 200 block of Highland Avenue with a bolt-action rifle.

Rachel Disani was charged with first-degree robbery and is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $60,000 bond.

“Selma Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Highland Avenue … in reference to a robbery in progress where a female was in possession of a black rifle,” said Lt. Curtis Muhannad. “When officers arrived on scene they were directed to a black female sitting in a burgundy Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the business.”

According to Muhannad, officers approached the vehicle with caution and saw the rifle lying in the front passenger seat of the vehicle.

According to the store clerk’s statement, Disani tried to use the ATM machine at the store earlier but was unsuccessful.

“Ms. Disani came back to the store about 10 minutes later and walked up the register with a 30.06 caliber rifle hanging over her shoulder and stated that she was ordered to come to the business and pick up $100,000 from the store,” Muhannad said.

The clerk told Disani that they didn’t keep that much cash on-hand and told her he would call his boss and have him bring the money to her.

“Ms. Disani turned and walked out of the store and waited in her vehicle,” Muhannad said.

After waiting in her car for a few minutes, police officers arrived on the scene and took her into custody without incident.

According to Muhannad, the gun was recovered with one round in the chamber.

If convicted, Disani could be facing 10 years to life in prison and up to $60,000 in fines.
