A teenager was shot late Saturday night during a graduation party at a hotel on the 1900 block of Highland Avenue.
According to Sgt. Evelyn Ghant with the Selma Police Department, officers and detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division responded to the emergency room at Vaughan Regional Medical Center around 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning in reference to a 17-year-old gunshot victim.
“The victim was standing in the parking lot when unknown shots were fired,” Ghant said. “The victim was transported by private vehicle to the local hospital for treatment and released.”
According to Ghant, a motive for the shooting has not been determined, and the shooting is still under investigation. Ghant said the victim doesn’t know who fired the shots or where they came from.
This was the second graduation party within a couple of days where someone was shot. A 20-year-old Selma man was shot May 21 in east Selma at a baseball field on Plant Street, where a party was being held.
According to Ghant, the victim of the Plant Street shooting also told investigators he did not know who was responsible for the shooting.
No arrests have been made in either case, and the Selma Police Department is asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 874-2588 or 1-866-442-7463.
Phone calls will be kept confidential, and a cash reward could be available for information.
