The Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, with help from other agencies, made two arrests Friday afternoon at an apartment at the corner of J.L. Chestnut Boulevard and Saint Ann Street.

Police cars surrounded an apartment at the corner of J.L. Chestnut Boulevard and Saint Ann Street Friday afternoon, as officers with the first, fourth and 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Forces executed a search warrant.

According to Larry Colston, commander of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force, Clinton Garrett and Conec Walker were arrested after officers searched an apartment and confiscated drugs, alcohol and other items.

“We confiscated some marijuana, digital scales and other things,” Colston said. “They’ve been selling alcohol and marijuana, so we found some beer, liquor and marijuana. We also found a gun on him.”

According to Colston, Garrett was wanted for drug distribution charges, and he will also be charged with first-degree possession of marijuana. Walker is being charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

The bust was just one of many to come Friday, Colston said, as it was just the first search warrant executed by the task forces.

With extra officers on hand, Colson’s task force has been able to execute more warrants.

“All the task forces in this area are all rural with very limited manpower, so what happens is, we come over and help out the Fourth Judicial Drug Task Force, and they come over and help us,” said Clint Sumlin, commander of the 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force.

“We all work together because we’re kind of limited. It’s a way we can kind of increase manpower when we do search warrants or whatever. We all just try to help each other out.”

The task force, which is made up of officers with the first, fourth and 17th Judicial Circuit Drug Task Forces and the Selma Police Department, has made an ongoing effort in recent weeks to eliminated drugs and violence from the streets of Selma.

“We’ve made a lot of progress here [in Selma],” Sumlin said. “We’ve made at least 10 arrests every time we come out. We’ve confiscated numerous guns and drugs.”
