The Old Cahawba Archaeological Park plans to inform visitors about the dark and dirty past of its residents with a special tour.
Cahawba’s True Crime Walking Tour will begin Saturday at 10 a.m. The tour will uncover some of the bad deeds hidden within the town. Feuding families and the threat to assassinate the president are among some of the topics that will be dug up during the one-hour tour. The cost to attend the tour will be $8.
Jonathan Matthews, assistant site director for Old Cahawba Archaeological Park, said some people think of Cahawba only as the first state capital, but there is more to it.
“I’m going to focus on some of the criminal activities that occurred down here at Old Cahawba,” he said. “The town had a shootout between two families. We’ll walk the grounds where this shootout actually occurred.”
Matthews said the staff has done a lot of research for the tour.
“Several of these stories have never been shared before,” he said.
