Morgan Academy Color Run returns Saturday

While most runners are racing each other to the finish line, runners in John T. Morgan Academy’s second annual Color Me MA Color Run will be looking to get colorful.
The run, which raises money for the school, is scheduled for Saturday, April 25 at 10 a.m. at Morgan Academy. Registration is from 9-9:30 a.m.
“It is a great way to raise funds, but it is really a great way to have fun with other families at Morgan and the community,” said Lauren Henry, the school’s director of communications and development. ”It is just a very, very fun event.”
Last year’s color run was so successful, the school decided to do it again.
“We had over 250 participants, and we were able to raise $4,000,” Henry said. “People were covered in color. In fact, some at the end even rolled around in the grass just to get more color on them.”
While Henry isn’t quite sure how many people have signed up so far for this year’s color run, she hopes it will be an even bigger success.
Most runs are competitive, but Morgan’s is all about having fun and getting colorful.
“It is not a competitive run. It is all about the fun and all about the color,” Henry said. “[Participants] wear all white that day, and for each kilometer they are doused with powdered color, which is an organic powder that is thrown up in the air and people run through it.”
Henry said last year people didn’t really know what to expect, but last year’s participants have been anticipating this year’s since the day it was announced.
“We kind of had to do some education on the front end last year because a lot of our younger students weren’t familiar with what a color run was,” Henry said. “But once we had it they were so excited for the next one.”
The course for the one-mile fun run will be on Morgan’s campus. Runners that run in the 5K will start at Morgan and take an off-road course.
Unlike most races that award people for clocking the best time, the Color Me MA Color Run will award people for having fun.
“We give out prizes for things like who is the most colorful runner and who is the most spirited,” Henry said.
While pre-registration has closed, people can still sign up. The entry fee is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the one-mile fun run.
