A 23-year-old missing Selma woman was found safe in Montgomery over the weekend.
According to Sgt. Ghant with the Selma Police Department, Jasmine Monique Jones was found safe and sound Sunday after a citizen spotted her.
“A citizen in Montgomery noticed her walking down South Boulevard, and they called the Selma Police Department dispatch,” Ghant said. “When they notified them, we notified the Montgomery Police Department, and they made contact with her at that time.”
Jones was reported missing by her aunt on April 1.
“It means a whole lot that she was found because we don’t want someone to be out there, and we don’t know what happened to them,” Ghant said. “We’re just happy that someone from Montgomery saw the news article and watched the news and saw her and reported it to law enforcement.”
Jones went missing after she left her boyfriend’s home on March 26. According to Ghant, investigators weren’t told much about why the 23-year-old decided to leave Selma without notifying anyone.
“She basically just wanted to be on her own, so she just decided to leave Selma,” Ghant said.
Ghant commended citizens for their help in locating Jones.
“It means a whole lot that the citizens can work hand in hand with the local law enforcement,” Ghant said. “It is very important because they are out there on the streets. They are our eyes and our ears, and so when they see things they can report it to us. That was a good job on the citizen to notify the Selma Police Department.”
According to Ghant, Jones’ mother picked her up in Montgomery after police officers found her.
