Bargain hunters were quick to their feet Saturday morning hoping to be the first in the door at Selma Charity League’s yard sale.

Shoppers made their way to the old cigar factory, only steps away from the future community garden it was benefiting.

The sale was a fundraiser put on by the Charity League to raise money for the Grow Selma garden.

“We’ve had a great turnout. There was a lot of people here early,” said Christina Siddens, president of the Selma Charity League. “I think everybody’s had a good experience. We’re kind of giving away and selling coffee and muffins and stuff, and I think people have been really pleased.”

Siddens said she was excited about the sale and being able to support the community by giving proceeds to the garden.

“We’re really excited about it. We’ve had several people even in this neighborhood come by and help donate stuff, and I think they’re excited about the garden too,” Siddens said.

“We’ve had a lot of donations from the community and league members with items and stuff to sell, so I think it’s going pretty well.”

Tina Waters, a shopper at the sale, said she enjoyed looking at the multitude of items that filled the warehouse.

“The sale is fantastic. I just didn’t get here early enough, but there’s a lot left,” Waters said. “It’s very, very organized, extremely nice and an abundance of things to choose from. I love to go to these.”

Kay Little, another buyer, was making her rounds, items in hand, and eventually had to leave her husband and grandson behind so she could continue on her search for the perfect deal.

“My husband is tired of waiting on me and he said ‘if you don’t see us in a little bit, we’ve gone to the car’ and I said ‘OK, I’ll take my time,’ because I haven’t got over all of it,” Little said. “I couldn’t wait to get up this morning to get here. I found some good buys. It’s great.”

Little held out a picture frame with “Love of my life” etched on the side and bragged about her good buy: “It’s 75 cents, it’s brand new. So that’s a good bargain.”
