A body was found in a burned out mobile home over the weekend, and authorities continue to investigate what happened to him, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson.
According to Selma Fire Chief Mike Stokes, the fire department responded to the scene on Karen Street around 11:56 p.m. Friday.
“It was a mobile home that had been added onto twice,” Stokes said. “There was a mobile home with a hallway and a bedroom added. When the Selma Fire Department arrived it was fully involved.”
Stokes declined further comment at this time and could not confirm the cause of the fire of Monday night.
“It is still an active investigation as to what’s going on and what happened,” Stokes said. “The Alabama State Fire Marshal’s, the Selma Police Department and the Selma Fire Department are investigating the fire at this time.”
Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department declined to comment on details Monday, but he did confirm an ongoing death investigation and expected more information would be released Tuesday.
According to Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson, the victim was a male, and foul play is suspected in the fire.
“They are looking at it as a possible homicide,” Jackson said. “We had the body sent off to the Department of Forensic Science. [There] was a suspicious circumstance around the fire and the victim.”
According to Jackson, investigators believe the fire was not the cause of death, but are not sure of the cause at this time. Jackson said no arrest has been made as of Monday night.
