Task force hopes to deter crime

Many have had it with the senseless crimes taking place around Selma and Dallas County.
District attorney Michael Jackson is among those and that’s why he’s starting a task force, which will be made up of agents from the Fourth Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force and other state and federal agents, to deter crime in our community.
The task force’s main objective is to end gang activity in Selma and cleanse the streets of the problems the city faces in that department. Jackson is trying to get a jump on the issue before the upcoming summer months, when crime typically rises because youth don’t always have productive ways to spend their off time.
Like many, we’re up for any project that can make our streets safer. Whether it be gangs or just lawbreakers up to no good, Selma faces the same crime issues many other cities around the country deal with.
Jackson said there’s been an increase in gang activity in recent months.
He also said outside agencies have shown an urgency to help alleviate the problems Selma is having.
We look forward to seeing the progress the task force makes once it is organized and can send its resources at deterring our crime problems.
