Five candidates have been selected for interviews in the ongoing search for the Selma City School System’s next superintendent.
The final five finalists to lead the Selma system are:
•Dr. Reginald T. Eggleston is an assistant superintendent for the Mobile County Public Schools, a role he has held since 2007.
•Jimmie C. Fryer is the new Superintendent of Conecuh County Schools. He was hired by the Conecuh County Schools system after he submitted his application for the Selma City School System.
•Dr. Angela Mangum is the education administrator, coordinator of LEAD Alabama and coordinator of the Principal Candidate Semester Residency at the Alabama Department of Education. Prior to working for the state, Mangum was a principal in the Montgomery Public Schools System.
•Dr. Keith A. Stewart is the superintendent of the Bullock County Board of Education, where he has been since 2003.
•Dr. Avis Williams is the executive director of Secondary Curriculum and Instruction at the Guilford County Schools in North Carolina. Williams has been with the Guilford County Schools since 2013.
Hank Jones with the Alabama Association of School Boards helped select the candidates.
He said all of the finalists are able to solve problems and are more than capable for the job.
The candidates come from a variety of school district sizes.
“I think if you have successful experiences where you are, then the size is really unimportant,” Jones said. “Considering the size of Selma City Schools, any of these people could be successful from the experiences they currently have.”
Open interview sessions for candidates will be held nightly March 18 through 20 at the Selma High School auditorium at 5 p.m.
