Tyra L. Jackson, a Selma native, has joined The Selma Times-Journal as a general assignment reporter.
She is the daughter of Felicia Simpson Jackson and twin sister, of Terra L. Jackson, who is a private first-class in the Army National Guard.
Jackson graduated from Selma Early College in 2012 and went on to the University of Alabama to study journalism. She graduated in December with a bachelor’s of arts in communication and information sciences.
“I’m more than excited to be back home and having the opportunity to write for such a prominent publication in the state of Alabama,” said Jackson.
Jackson will cover news and sports for the Times-Journal and selmatimesjournal.com
“I’m happy to welcome Tyra to our newsroom,” said editor Justin Averette. “It’s great to have a Selma native working for the newspaper, and I know she is looking forward to reporting on her hometown and hitting the ground running.”
