Unity Walk set for March

There’s a historic walk talking place in Selma in March, but it may not be the one you’re thinking of. Most of the world knows about the Jubilee on March 8 and the march across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in remembrance of Bloody Sunday, but a week before Selma churches are coming together for a unity walk.
The walk will take place March 1 at 2 p.m. and unlike any other Selma march, will start on the Selmont side of the bridge and will walk back into Selma.
The purpose of the walk is to try to bring the faith community together, which only makes sense in a place where church involvement plays such a large role in the city.
“It is the faith community that started the change for the right to vote, so this is the faith community coming back home saying we’re not perfect, but we’re working together,” said walk organizer Juanda Maxwell.
All churches are invited to take part in the unity walk. Like faith, unity is a powerful thing. We encourage all churches to take part. Not only is it a great way to kickoff a historic week in Selma, but it’s also a way to show the Selma community is embracing the world as one.
