Selma is still abuzz after the appearance of Oprah Winfrey and the performances of John Legend and Common this past weekend and all of the excitement isn’t likely to end any time soon.

However, with everything going on, one of the biggest stories of the weekend has flown under the radar a bit.

Paramount Pictures announced at a question-and-answer session at Selma High School Sunday that it was donating $75,000 to the school, which can be used for any supplies or needs the school might have in the future.

With all that Paramount, Winfrey and director Ava DuVernay had already done for Selma, this was completely unexpected and it’s something they didn’t have to do.

We don’t know yet how Selma High School plans to use the money and at this point the school probably hasn’t decided that either, but we’re sure the donation will be put to good use that will improve the education of our youth.

At the end of the day, empowering and educating the next generation is really what matters.

It was an incredible weekend in Selma and thanks to Paramount, students Selma High School will have a chance to benefit from it for years to come.
